This study proposes an interpretation of the Potenza River Valley as a ‘peri-urban territory’, a feature that clearly emerges by looking at this territory not as separate parts corresponding to the administrative municipal boundaries but rather as an ‘integrated system’. By analysing its spatial and economic dynamics as jointly generated by the development of the nine municipalities – today contiguous in terms of car mobility – that govern the territory. Every part of the Potenza River Valley is to be conceptualised as a ‘periphery’ of one or more of these municipalities.
